NOTE.

One of the simplest ways to convert a given concentration to part per million (ppm) is to convert the unit of the mass given to you to milligram(mg)

and

convert the unit of the volume given to you to Litres(L)

*After doing those two conversions, then find out the mass (in milligram) of that substance given to you that would be present if the volume becomes one litre (1L)*

Therefore, we say that, part per million concentration is the quantity of a substance in milligram contained in 1L or 1 dmΒ³ of the given solution.

SOLUTION 1.

Given mass = 483mg

We don’t need to convert this mass to milligram (mg) since it is already given in milligram.

Given volume = 1L

We don’t need to convert this volume to litre (L) since it already given in litre.

To convert from millilitre (ml) to litre (L), we divide with 1,000

Volume = 480/1000

= 0.48L
